Replica Rolex watches Michelle Obama Everyday Icon
I love Michelle Obama and I love clothes.
No “but” here, just a little yet. Something about this new book “Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style”and all the attention on how she dresses makes little post-feminist alarm bells go off in my head.
After looking at all the ensembles and outfits and get-ups something just feels costumey about all of this, and a worry this complex, beautiful, smart, admirable, patriotic working mother and First Lady is getting objectified. Willingly so.
When I was working in my 20s it was very important that women fit in and looked professional — which meant not feminine Replica Cartier Watches, not girly and plenty of shoulder pads and floppy ties. (I know). I’ve been happily re-educated in recent years that young women can dress the way they want to, including sexy Replica Rolex watches, pretty and feminine, and not only get away with it but establish a new standard. A “this is how I dress, deal with it” bravado that I applaud.
It’s not Michelle Obama’s freedom of choices that bother me as much as the intensity of and focus on her wardrobe and the ever-changing frequency of new looks and hairstyles and all the time and effort we all know goes into that, along with the complexity of some of these ensembles that reminds me of a single and beautifully simple paper doll with just too many tabbed outfits.
So yes, I’m conflicted and decided to ask some friends and family for a reality check — here’s what they had to say:
-Costume is a good word. For women of power/intelligence, costume is something they have to consider when clothing themselves. Even those awful Wall Street outfits that women in finance usually don. Fashion is costume on some level. Being objectified comes with the territory for first ladies.
-In order to be taken seriously, we used to wear pant suits… or at least a tailored jacket and skirt – stockings and pumps. Michelle Obama shows us that a woman can be taken seriously as a strong woman — not dressed like a man, but outfitted in elegant fashion, or in jeans, or barefooted and in shorts or whatever. (The fact that she’s a Harvard MBA probably helps!) No more “wife wear”; Obama’s clothes communicate her individuality — that she is her own person and at the same time we know her to be a dedicated partner and mother. She’s definitely comfortable in her clothes — and in her own skin. The criticisms of her clothes are a reaction to this subtext of independence — breaking out of the old mold and “violating” traditional expectations – that her choice in clothes convey.
-I think people are interested in how she dresses because she’s African American and that’s different, the same way it was with Jackie O, who was also different because of her youthfulness. Think about Mamie Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson, Rosalyn Carter, Nancy Reagan and my personal fav, Barbara Bush… all so appropriate, so post-menopausal, so friggin’ boring. A couple of years back, I went to a wonderful exhibit at the Kennedy Library which showcased Jackie’s look. I doubt that type of show would happen for the other First Ladies, but I bet it will for Michelle
-I go to this wonderful female radiologist for my mammograms. One day I’m thumbing through a magazine and there’s a full page ad for some designer showing women of all types modeling the fashions. My doctor was one of them. When I next saw her we talked about it and I asked why she did it. “To show my daughter that you can be a serious, substantial woman but also care about fashion.” This woman diagnoses breast cancer everyday but has a strong enough sense of herself to know that caring about what she wears in no way diminishes who she is.
-Ask any First Lady and my guess is they don’t want to be defined by what they wear — I’m sure she’d rather be remembered as a champion for fighting childhood obesity and working for military families. But on the other hand, what woman wouldn’t want to be known as a fashion icon?
-I think in some ways it makes Americans proud to see the first family looking regal at the appropriate function. Barbara bush had her fake pearls that she bragged about but she was never considered stylish. Michelle Obama is young and beautiful. She has shown off her great arms in some beautiful dresses. I think we all want to look up to her and admire what she is wearing. I think the problem is she has to walk a fine line between being sensible and not overspending but also looking stylish and elegant as a representative of our country.
-Back off! Michelle Obama is showing Americans how to dress affordably, eat healthy and exercise. What could possibly be wrong with that?
I don’t stand corrected, just shushed. Which is fine with me- as I said, I love Michelle Obama and I love clothes. I just want more reasons to love.
Replica Rolex watches Let Go of Worry
How often do you catch yourself worrying?
When I was a kid my mom used to say to me, “95 percent of what you worry about never happens.” I think she recognized that I was the “worrying type” and was trying to help ease my mind. Although this rarely worked, I appreciated her sentiment and know now that she was right.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been prone to worrying. I continue to work on this, let it go, forgive myself for it, and choose different ways of being in the face of my fear. And, I still catch myself worrying more than I’d like — about the future, about my body, about how things will turn out, about what people think about me, about money, about the well-being of my loved ones, about the state of the world, and much more.
However, no matter how much we worry, it never really helps. And, as we look deeper at what worrying actually is — a set-up for failure, a negative attractor, and a denial or avoidance of feeling our true feelings — we see that it can have a damaging impact on our lives, our work, and our relationships. When we worry, we’re simply preparing to be upset or angry — assuming something won’t work out in the future.
Worry not only creates stress, it has an impact (usually negative) on what we create and manifest, and on our experiences in life in general. Worry is a superficial emotion. It’s clearly something that many of us are all familiar with Replica Rolex watches, can share with others in a way that will garner sympathy, empathy or even pity, and is easy for us to go through daily life experiencing. However, underneath our worry are usually deeper emotions like shame, fear, guilt, hurt or anger; many of which are more difficult for us to feel and express.
If we’re able to tell the truth and face our deeper feelings, we won’t have to waste our time and energy worrying. We can then deal with the root of the issue, not the superficial impact of it (which is what worry usually is).
There’s nothing wrong with feeling scared, angry, hurt and even “worried,” in and of itself. These emotions, like love, gratitude, excitement, joy, and others are very important to our human experience. Emotions that are felt deeply and expressed appropriately give us power (regardless of what they are). Emotions that are not felt deeply, that are denied or avoided, and are not effectively expressed, can be damaging to us and those around us.
Worry is always a sign that there are some deeper feelings or issues for us to address. It’s often a good reminder for us to get more real, take better care of ourselves, and pay attention.
Below is a list of some things you can do when you get worried. These simple ideas can help you move through your worry in a positive way:
When you notice yourself worrying; stop, check in with yourself Replica Breitling watches, and take a few slow deep breaths (all the way down to your belly).
Ask yourself, what’s underneath my worry? (i.e. why am I really worried and what am I really feeling?)
Face, feel, and express these underlying emotions — get support from others in this process if you need it.
Once you have felt and expressed these emotions, choose how you want to feel and what you want to create, instead of playing the role of the victim.
Appreciate yourself for the courage it takes to be honest and to deal with the challenging situations or emotions you’re experiencing.
Focus on the good stuff in your life (i.e. be grateful for what you have, who you are, and what you’re going through)
Be of service to others — generously put your attention on those around you who can benefit from your help. It will be a great gift to them and to you. Service can allow you to shift your attention from your worry to what you have to give, which is a true win-win for everyone involved.

Replica rado watches Rusal Plans to Keep FirstQuar
By Michelle Yun and Yuliya Fedorinova
Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) — United Co. Rusal, the world’s largest aluminum producer Replica rolex watches, plans to keep output stable in the first quarter, and sell some of the stockpiles accumulated last year, as prices rise.
“We plan to keep the volume of production stable in the first quarter,” First Deputy Chief Executive Officer Vladislav Soloviev said today on a conference call with reporters. The company confirmed it may cut output by about 6 percent in the next 18 months.
Rusal shifted sales of about 100,000 metric tons of aluminum produced last year to the first quarter of 2012, according to a statement on production results published today via the Hong Kong stock exchange.
Aluminum prices declined almost 30 percent by the middle of December to $1,962 a ton from a peak in May, prompting Alcoa Inc. and Rio Tinto Group to start idling capacity. Prices are recovering, with a 12 percent gain this year to $2,267 today.
Rusal expects global demand growth for the metal to slow this year as consumption in Europe remains little changed, according to the company’s statement.
Global aluminum demand may gain 7 percent to 48.2 million metric tons this year, down from last year’s increase of 10 percent to 45.1 million metric tons, Rusal said.
Aluminum, used in cars, packaging and houses Replica rado watches, has declined 10 percent in the past year, hurting producers such as Rusal and Alcoa Inc., which last month booked its first loss in two years. Global capacity may be curbed by 6 to 8 percent in the first half of this year, Rusal said. This means that about 4 million tons of capacity may be culled from the market, Deputy CEO Oleg Mukhamedshin said today on the conference call.
“2012 is forecast to be a very challenging year for Europe,” the Moscow-based company said today. Customer destocking from last year may now have stopped, Rusal said.
Rusal shares fell 2.7 percent to HK$6.45 at the 4 p.m. close in Hong Kong compared with a 0.5 percent gain in the benchmark Hang Seng index.
“About 31 percent of China’s aluminum production capacity may be unprofitable now,” Rusal said. That is equivalent to about 5.9 million tons a year, it said.
Still, the company sees a “potential recovery coming in the second quarter of 2012” as demand will grow 11 percent in China and 10 percent in India this year, it said.
Rusal’s aluminum output last year increased 1 percent to 4.1 million tons compared with the year earlier, it said today. Production in the fourth quarter rose 1 percent on year to 1.06 million tons, it said.

Sir Jackie Stewart Wants Ewan Mcgregor For Racing Movie
Hollywood bosses are eyeing a biopic of motor racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart – and the track ace wants Ewan Mcgregor to play him onscreen.
Brokeback Mountain producer Bill Pohlad is preparing to shoot the movie, which will focus on Sir Jackie’s friendship with his Formula 1 protege Francois Cevert, who was killed in a track accident in the U.S. in 1973.
Triple world champion Sir Jackie has read a draft of the untitled film’s script and has given the greenlight for the project – and he’s recommending Pohlad signs up fellow Scot MCGregor to play him in the movie.
The retired racer tells The Sun, “The relationship that Francois and I had was probably unique in that we were such good friends while, at the same time, racing against each other even though we were in the same team. This has been picked up by a very good filmmaker in Bill. He has worked with some very big stars and he is a friend of mine. I’ve known him since about 1971. He wants to do it and we have agreed.
“Clearly we won’t be in it, it has to be actors. I don’t know who will be playing me – but Ewan MCGregor would be an awfully good choice.”
BASF Removes Acquisition Strategy Barrier as Cogni
By Sheenagh Matthews
Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) — BASF SE, the world’s largest chemical manufacturer Replica Tag heuer Watches, may resume bigger acquisitions after completing the integration of cosmetics-ingredient maker Cognis that the company had cited as hampering further major purchases.
Cognis’s operations were fully brought into BASF’s by the end of January and teams working on the project have disbanded, Ulrich Boettger, global integration manager, said in an internal newspaper. Chief Executive Officer Kurt Bock has said repeatedly in the past year that Ludwigshafen, Germany-based BASF’s work to integrate Cognis would probably forestall a “larger” purchase.
“They have made an acquisition approximately every two years, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they made another soon,” said Heiko Feber, an analyst at Bankhaus Lampe KG with a “buy” recommendation on the stock. “I doubt it will happen immediately with the current economic environment in Europe, but I wouldn’t rule out their becoming active if something interesting comes along.”
Bock’s predecessor, Juergen Hambrecht, spent more than 18 billion euros ($23.7 billion) on purchases during an eight- year term that ended when he retired in May 2011. BASF may be interested in an acquisition that adds enzyme technology, Bock said in November.
BASF bought Monheim, Germany-based Cognis in December 2010 for 3.1 billion euros, and expects the combination to add 290 million euros to earnings before interest and taxes. The company raised its sales target for the end of the decade by 28 percent on Nov. 29 to 115 billion euros as emerging markets drive growth.
The manufacturer has generally made “a medium-sized investment” of 3 billion euros to 5 billion euros every two to three years Replica Rolex Watches, which is “compatible with our financial profile” and with the capacity to absorb new businesses, Bock said at the time. BASF hasn’t budgeted for a major purchase, he said.
Jennifer Moore-Braun, a BASF spokeswoman, declined to comment today beyond referring to Bock’s comments in November.

Rod Stewart Has Son To Thank For Latest Family Arrival
Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster are deeply in love with their one year old son Aiden, whom Lancaster underwent Ivf treatment in order to have, but in a surprising interview the 40 year-old claimed the decision to have another child if it hadn’t been for one vital influence in the family – the couple’s six year old son Alastair!
Speaking on Uk Tv show ‘Lorraine,’ the Winnipeg Free Press reports that Lancaster said to host Lorraine Kelly “Alastair was the one that kept encouraging us to keep trying, saying ‘Please mummy I want a brother’, I was crossing my fingers actually that it wasn’t a girl because he wanted a brother so much. He’s ecstatic and the two of them have the most wonderful relationship.”
As such, Alastair now has a little brother to go alongside six step sisters and brothers from previous marriages. Far from the relational dissonance you might expect from such a situation however, Lancaster insisted that the extended family couldn’t be getting on better, with her and Stewart managing to meet up with all the kids over the festive period. “I knew when I met Rod it wasn’t a partnership with just two people, it was a family with everybody,” she said, “There were times that were difficult at the beginning but with warmth and love and understanding we are now the biggest happiest family.”
