Replica Breitling Watches How Journalists Can Help
Journalists are schooled in investigating and reporting events objectively and when it comes to conflicts, they report on the progress of wars, gang violence, white color crime and what might have caused these to occur. For opinions, one would usually check the editorial page.
The team at the Stanford Peace Innovation Lab challenges this notion. What if journalists, in combination with their current jobs, could also promote peace and find ways to facilitate peace by soliciting creative ideas on social media platforms?
Change of this type can provide huge benefits, however it can also be a slippery slope. Proactively influencing world events Replica Tag heuer Watches, beyond simply reporting events, makes one complicit and responsible for the consequences. As with the physician’s oath of “First, do no harm,” before soliciting and selecting ideas it was important to make sure the framing, direction and decision criteria were well thought through. In short, a good design brief was needed.
Recent research at Stanford assisted the creation of the Inspirational Design Briefing method that balances nine Design Quality Criteria addressing Strategy (Philosophy, Structure, Innovation), Context (Social, Environmental, Viability) and Execution (Process, Function, Expression). These findings show that most design briefs are badly balanced and fail to communicate strategic criteria Replica Breitling Watches, which results in budget overruns that, in turn, foster poor solutions. When done correctly however, the brief effectively translates business criteria into useful design inspiration leading to superior design team performance and a much higher quality in the final deliverable.
For a specific project, the designer needs to determine exactly what these criteria are. Therefore, adjustments had to be made when conducting crowd sourcing on a challenge as abstract as Peace Journalism. To do this we engaged a selection of creative professional LinkedIn groups. Guiding participants though the creative crowd sourcing process, we posted three increasingly comprehensive briefs in consecutive order, with one week between. The first was a “Pitch” that introduced the strategy of the challenge; the second, a “Mini Brief,” established the context; and the third was an “Inspirational Design Brief” focusing on the execution. We posted to multiple LinkedIn groups reaching close to 50,000 members.
Starting out with the brief judged by the team to be the best possible, we iterated between challenging the creative professionals, learning how the brief worked, making adjustments and then challenging the creative professionals once again. Though out this process, we optimized our Inspirational Design Brief while gaining valuable insights into what we could expect using a global commercial platform.
The next step is to conduct a second-level crowd sourcing process using a global commercial platform where we will gather data about the innovation challenge. The analysis will focus on how to apply multiple team/crowd iterations, alternating between diverging and converging challenges to move the discussion from abstract ideas to concrete solutions.
One big insight from the crowd sourcing experiment was feedback on how biased we had been regarding the brand value of journalists. Forty percent of those responding found journalists biased and manipulated by business interests. Not even one supported journalists and everyone expected the objective reporting of facts only and stated that when opinions were expressed they should be clearly indicated as opinions. Though their judgment of journalists was harsh, their ideas on how journalists could proactively promote peace were surprisingly constructive.
Preliminary data gathering rounds have been conducted to create a good design brief for the challenge and the process of setting up the challenge continues. As Tanja Aitamurto reports on her blog post, citizen journalists have had a strong impact on the developments in the Arab World, and this may inspire us to contribute as well.
Replica Rolex watches Let Go of Worry
How often do you catch yourself worrying?
When I was a kid my mom used to say to me, “95 percent of what you worry about never happens.” I think she recognized that I was the “worrying type” and was trying to help ease my mind. Although this rarely worked, I appreciated her sentiment and know now that she was right.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been prone to worrying. I continue to work on this, let it go, forgive myself for it, and choose different ways of being in the face of my fear. And, I still catch myself worrying more than I’d like — about the future, about my body, about how things will turn out, about what people think about me, about money, about the well-being of my loved ones, about the state of the world, and much more.
However, no matter how much we worry, it never really helps. And, as we look deeper at what worrying actually is — a set-up for failure, a negative attractor, and a denial or avoidance of feeling our true feelings — we see that it can have a damaging impact on our lives, our work, and our relationships. When we worry, we’re simply preparing to be upset or angry — assuming something won’t work out in the future.
Worry not only creates stress, it has an impact (usually negative) on what we create and manifest, and on our experiences in life in general. Worry is a superficial emotion. It’s clearly something that many of us are all familiar with Replica Rolex watches, can share with others in a way that will garner sympathy, empathy or even pity, and is easy for us to go through daily life experiencing. However, underneath our worry are usually deeper emotions like shame, fear, guilt, hurt or anger; many of which are more difficult for us to feel and express.
If we’re able to tell the truth and face our deeper feelings, we won’t have to waste our time and energy worrying. We can then deal with the root of the issue, not the superficial impact of it (which is what worry usually is).
There’s nothing wrong with feeling scared, angry, hurt and even “worried,” in and of itself. These emotions, like love, gratitude, excitement, joy, and others are very important to our human experience. Emotions that are felt deeply and expressed appropriately give us power (regardless of what they are). Emotions that are not felt deeply, that are denied or avoided, and are not effectively expressed, can be damaging to us and those around us.
Worry is always a sign that there are some deeper feelings or issues for us to address. It’s often a good reminder for us to get more real, take better care of ourselves, and pay attention.
Below is a list of some things you can do when you get worried. These simple ideas can help you move through your worry in a positive way:
When you notice yourself worrying; stop, check in with yourself Replica Breitling watches, and take a few slow deep breaths (all the way down to your belly).
Ask yourself, what’s underneath my worry? (i.e. why am I really worried and what am I really feeling?)
Face, feel, and express these underlying emotions — get support from others in this process if you need it.
Once you have felt and expressed these emotions, choose how you want to feel and what you want to create, instead of playing the role of the victim.
Appreciate yourself for the courage it takes to be honest and to deal with the challenging situations or emotions you’re experiencing.
Focus on the good stuff in your life (i.e. be grateful for what you have, who you are, and what you’re going through)
Be of service to others — generously put your attention on those around you who can benefit from your help. It will be a great gift to them and to you. Service can allow you to shift your attention from your worry to what you have to give, which is a true win-win for everyone involved.

MANILA, Philippines – Young actress Julia Montes made it clear that there is no competition between her and former "Mara Clara" co-star Kathryn Bernardo.
In an interview during a Star Magic press conference on Thursday afternoon, Montes said their friendship is strong enough to withstand rumors.
"Nalulungkot [ako] kasi iba ‘yung dating sa tao, parang nauunahan ko si Kathryn. Pero hindi kasi malaking proyekto, ‘yung ginagawa niya ngayon Replica breitling watches," Montes said, referring to Bernardo’s upcoming show, "The Princess and I."
"Nasa Bhutan sila and excited ako para sa kanya kasi pagkatapos nun makikita niyo ‘yung ibang side niya rin. Princess siya doon.
"Walang inggitan. Friendly competition siguro in a way na nagbabantayan kami. Minsan ina-ate niya ako na, ‘Ate, mas okay ‘pag ginawa mo ‘yung ganito, ganyan.’ May ganun kami, bantayan ng role, ‘yung ginagawa namin sa scene, ‘yung ganun, tulungan," she added.
Montes said that she and Bernardo already prepared themselves from intrigues that may come their way even before they did the remake of 1992 ABS-CBN hit series "Mara Clara."
"Bago kami pumasok sa showbiz, alam na rin namin ‘yung takbo dahil sa ‘Goin Bulilit’ alam na namin ‘yung pagkakaiba ng normal relationship sa showbiz friendships. Alam namin kung saan kami doon," she explained.
Montes said that even if they are now doing their respective projects, they are still in touch.
"Minsan may ‘miss factor’ talaga kami. May ugali kasi kami sa set na pagkatapos magsha-shower kami Replica longines watches, wala na kaming ganoon ngayon. Siyempre iba talaga ‘yung bonding namin. Permanent Link to Jamie Lynn Spears Speaks on Her

Jamie Lynn Spears who is younger sister of Britney Spears, got pregnant at age 16 which made headlines at the time. Now, Jamie has spoken openly on what it was like to deal with her teenage pregnancy in the public eye while many accused her of glamorizing teen pregnancy. Jamie says she dealt with things the way she felt was right at the time Replica Tag heuer watches, even when the tabloids were so hard on her:
“I did feel responsible for the young girls and the mothers who I probably confused and let down. I apologize for that. But I wasn’t trying to glamorize teen pregnancy. I hated when [the tabloids] said that. Everybody is dealt a hand of cards. It was my choice to play them the way I played them. But the hateful comments hurt.”
Speaking on how she found out she was pregnant, Jamie reveals that she was still working on her Nickelodeon show at the time, and when filming wrapped up she was eager to get back to school and her usual home life, but instead found out she was pregnant with her boyfriend’s baby:
“It was 2007. I had been on a Nickelodeon show, Zoey 101 Replica Breitling watches, and after we wrapped shooting, I just wanted to go home to Louisiana and finish high school, be a cheerleader, all that. Then I found out I was pregnant [by then-boyfriend Casey Aldridge]. I was 16. I’d had one boyfriend. It doesn’t make it perfect or all right. But I was judged for something that probably most everyone does. I was young. I was in love. I was like every other teenager, except I had this last name. And I made a decision that is forever my decision.”
Jamie also explains that while she believes in birth control, it wasn’t something she had access to at the time because she was afraid of going to the doctor, especially because she was becoming quite well known:
“I believe in safety and birth control as prevention. But like many young girls…I was really scared to go to the doctor. And I was on a Nickelodeon show, and it [felt] especially embarrassing to ask someone to put me on birth control. I didn’t want to ask my doctor, because she had a little girl.”
Schumer Wants to Tie Commuter Tax Benefit to Payro
By Steven Sloan
(Updates with Healy quote in last two paragraphs.)
Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) — Senator Charles Schumer Replica Rolex watches, a New York Democrat, will seek to attach commuter tax benefits to legislation that would extend the U.S. payroll tax cut.
Last year, workers were able to set aside $230 each month before taxes to cover the cost of their commutes. Since that measure expired Dec. 31, the benefit has been capped at $125 a month. Schumer would permanently set the benefit at $230 and apply it retroactively to Jan. 1.
The commuter benefit was part of a broader package of tax breaks that expired at the end of 2011. Congress has a history of renewing the breaks retroactively, and the payroll package may be one of the few pieces of legislation this year to which such a measure could be attached.
“The last thing we should be doing in this economy is making it more expensive to get to work,” Schumer said in a statement. “This mass transit tax benefit fits the theme of a middle-class tax break and should be extended as part of the payroll tax cut. It’s simply not fair to squeeze the middle class with a more expensive commute.”
Companies benefit from the transit break because they don’t have to pay their share of payroll taxes on the amounts set aside. It may be difficult for Congress to single out the commuter benefit after dozens of other tax breaks also expired at year’s end, including credits for renewable energy, manufacturers and companies that hire welfare recipients.
Mass Transit
Public transportation agencies have fought the decrease in benefits. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority put signs last month in its subway stations near the U.S. Capitol reminding commuters that the benefit was expiring. The signs were still in place today.
Workers can currently set aside $240 before taxes to pay for certain parking expenses. Rob Healy, the vice president for the American Public Transportation Association, a Washington trade group, said reviving the benefit would restore “parity between the transit and parking benefits.”
“APTA strongly believes that the federal tax code should not favor one mode of transportation and is advocating that parity be restored in the payroll tax bill,” he said in a statement.

EU May Ban Iran Oil Within Months, Reynders Tells
By Ewa Krukowska
Jan. 21 (Bloomberg) — The European Union may ban Iranian oil imports within a few months, while ensuring the embargo doesn’t hurt the region’s economy and international security, Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders told De Standaard.
The phase-in period for the embargo should be as short as possible, Reynders told the newspaper in an interview published today. The EU can implement it in such a way so that oil supplies are not compromised and prices remain under control, he said, according to De Standaard.
Foreign ministers from the 27-nation EU are due to discuss sanctions on Iran and decide about the timing of the potential ban at their Jan. 23 gathering in Brussels. Any decision to impose an embargo would have to be unanimous.
The embargo would include a temporary exemption for existing contracts to enable countries such as Greece Replica Tag heuer watches, Italy and Spain to find alternative supplies, with most countries backing a Danish proposal of moving to a full embargo from July 1 Replica Breitling watches, EU diplomats said earlier this week.
