Masters squash deserved better promotion, say play

without comments

New Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) Top internationals competing in the $165 Dresses and wedding,000 Punj Lloyd Professional Squash Association (PSA) Masters as well as the officials of the governing body of the sport feel the tournament here deserved better attention and promotion.

They all say the world’s second most important tournament should have been better marketed to get crowds flocking to the swanky Siri Fort indoor sports complex built for the Commonwealth Games.

‘Playing in front of empty rows of galleries is depressing,’ said one of the players, not wanting to be identified, pointing to the deserted stadium.

The organisers cannot be exactly blamed for the poor response as the entry is free for the tournament featuring six of the top 10 professional players, including Englishman James Willstrop who is on the threshold of becoming the World No.1. The other big names competing are the 2008 World Champion Ramy Ashour and former No.1 Karim Darwish Bridesmaid dresses, both hailing from Egypt.

Lee Beachill, Chief Operation Officer of PSA feels the tournament, which is one of the nine World Series event to be held this year, should have been promoted for at least six months before the start of the tournament. Infrastructure giants Punj Lloyd are the title sponsors of the tournament.

‘We and the players are very happy to come here. The timing of the tournament makes it very important for players. There was a lot of excitement before it began as to whether James will become the new number one. The event is growing rapidly in India but the external PR needs to be a lot better. I see it has been organised really well but you have to get more eyeballs. That will happen only when you market it aggressively Clothes store,’ Beachill told IANS here.

Unlike the last two editions Cocktail dress, the pre-tournament media conference was also given a miss.

Willstrop, the favourite to win the title in the absence of compatriot and defending champion Nick Matthew, is disappointed seeing only a handful of people watching the action at the state-of-the-art glass court here. Though popularising squash is a challenge in a cricket-crazy country like India, he feels there is enough audience for the sport across the world.

‘I have played in many parts of the world and I can safely say people love watching squash. Squash playing nations like England will naturally have more crowds but I see the interest growing even in the middle east. The same can happen in India if the organisers promote the sport aggressively,’ said Willstrop.

‘The best example of good promotion are tournaments in America. The country doesn’t have many players on the tour but still people come to watch us in huge numbers. It is packed,’ he added.

Louise Sharma, corporate communication group head of Punj Lloyd, says they have been doing a lot to create awareness about the tournament and the sport.

‘Since squash is not popular in India, we even ended up paying money for telecasting the matches live this weekend. This besides having a big prize money Vintage motorcycles,’ Sharma told IANS.

‘There are not enough people probably because of the exams. We even decided against having tickets, the entry is free. The hoardings can be seen at various places in the capital.

‘It was tough when we started three years ago, but now we have come a long way. It is very easy for people to say that we could have started promotion well before the tournament.’

The first edition of the PSA Masters was played in Mumbai and then shifted to Delhi. Their contract with PSA will be up renewal after the end of the current edition.

ECBs Stark Heaps Pressure on Governments to Find G

(For more on Europe’s debt crisis, see {EXT4}.)

July 20 (Bloomberg) — European Central Bank Executive Board member Juergen Stark heaped pressure on politicians to find a solution to the sovereign debt crisis at a summit tomorrow that doesn’t involve any form of Greek debt default.

Stark told Germany’s Boersen-Zeitung newspaper that governments agreed last month to avoid a selective default and urged them to stick to that commitment. He also said the Frankfurt-based central bank won’t change its rules or take on any more risk if the private sector is involved in a Greek bailout. The ECB confirmed the remarks.

“I expect state and government leaders this week to stop fiddling and give a clear signal to markets — you can rely on Europe Plus size clothing,” Stark said. “Europe is at a crossroads. What the leaders decide at their summit will have a medium to long-term impact on the functioning of the currency union.”

European leaders meet in Brussels tomorrow to hammer out a second Greek aid package and stem a 21-month debt crisis that is now threatening to engulf Spain and Italy. The main sticking point is how to get bondholders and banks to foot a share of the bill without triggering a default.

While Germany is reluctant to keep forcing its taxpayers to support Greece and has signaled a restructuring may be unavoidable, ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet says any default risks sparking a meltdown on a par with the collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

ECB Rules

“Whoever wants to involve private creditors in the solution must be aware of the consequences,” Stark said. “At the end of the day, the involvement of the private sector could be even more costly to taxpayers than going without it” as it may result in governments having to recapitalize Greek banks.

Stark reiterated that the ECB won’t accept defaulted Greek government bonds as collateral. “We won’t change our rules and we won’t increase our risk because of the possible involvement of private creditors,” he said.

It’s “technically possible” to involve the private sector without triggering a selective default or a default, Stark said, noting that the ECB has called for the European Financial Stability Facility to be given the power to purchase bonds on the secondary market. Even then Dresses online, there’s no guarantee that markets wouldn’t view this as a credit event, he said.

Stark said that in June Designers couture, governments “decided to avoid a selective default.” They should not now engage in “political yo-yoing Wedding dresses,” he said. “Our assumption is that the governments hold to what they have decided.”

Mujuru Death Prompts Probe Calls and Opens Zimbabw

without comments

By Brian Latham

Aug. 25 (Bloomberg) — Zimbabwe’s Vice President Joice Mujuru called for a probe of her husband’s death in a fire, an event that may influence who succeeds President Robert Mugabe as head of his political party.

Solomon Mujuru Black lace dresses, the former head of the liberation army that propelled Mugabe to power in 1980, was found dead after a fire at a house on a farm he owned in Beatrice near the capital Harare, the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Font party said on Aug. 16. The 62-year-old supported his wife’s appointment in 2004 and was a member of the party’s top decision making body.

“We need a thorough investigation because my husband was a fit military man and it is very difficult to understand how he was trapped in the house Online clothing,” Joice Mujuru said in comments broadcast late on Aug. 23. Windows in the house were low enough for her grandchildren to “jump in and out with ease,” she said in a separate interview with the state-controlled Herald newspaper yesterday.

Joice Mujuru is pitted against Defense Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Constantine Chiyengwa, the head of Zimbabwe’s armed forces, to succeed the 87-year old Mugabe Fashion online, three party officials familiar with the situation said in June. The death of Solomon Mujuru will damage his wife’s chances, Takavafira Zhou, a political lecturer at the University of Masvingo in central Zimbabwe, said on Aug. 16.

“Mujuru’s death has clearly left a huge gap in Zanu-PF. He was the king-maker in a party with unsteady factions and fluid loyalties,” Judy Smith-Hohn, an analyst at the Pretoria- based Institute for Security Studies, said in an interview. “His death is bad news for Zimbabweans and foreigners. The Mujuru faction is the pro-business faction in Zanu-PF and it has been weakened.”

Groceries, Cell Phone

“It’s suspected that the fire was used to mask evidence, because the general’s groceries were still in his car along with his cell phone,” Wilf Mhanda, a former guerrilla and now leader of the war veterans department of the Movement for Democratic Change, which governs Zimbabwe in a coalition with Zanu-PF, said in an interview. “I am surprised that Mugabe hasn’t called for an independent investigation.”

Police and fire department officials investigating the blaze have interviewed over 20 people, including three policemen assigned to guard the general at the farm, police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena said in an interview from Harare yesterday. He didn’t give further details.

“It was single storey, had more doors and windows than a colander has holes in it Online fashion,” Guy Watson-Smith, a former owner of the farm, said in an e-mailed reply to questions last week. “The roof was asbestos and the walls brick and cement. How can you not get out of that?”

Car Accidents

A number of rivals for Zanu-PF’s leadership and critics of the government have died in accidents over the past four decades.

In 1975 Herbert Chitepo, then leader of the party, died in a bomb explosion and in 1979 Josiah Tongogara, the then leader of the liberation army, was killed in a car accident.

In 1995 Chris Ushewokunze, a finance minister who clashed with Mugabe over policy, died in a car accident and Witness Rukarwa, a provincial governor critical of Mugabe Wedding shop, perished in a vehicle accident. Former ministers Moven Mahachi and Elliott Manyika died in car accidents in 2001 and and 2008.

The Vaccines singer Justin Young is trying not to get angry to protect his voice.

The ‘If You Wanna’ vocalist has undergone three operations for haemorrhages on his vocal cords in the last year and is attempting to keep his temper in check to protect his voice.

Justin told NME magazine: “I’m just trying to be more mindful of it, not getting in too many shouting matches and stuff. You can do more damage talking; all it takes is just an abrasive little ‘Oi’ and yeah, game over.”

As a result of their hitmaker’s throat problems, ‘The Vaccines’ were forced to cancel shows in North America, Europe and Japan which Justin says was the “lowlight” of his year.

He added: “Just having to cancel and cancel and cancel. You hear about bands who have been going for 10 years, who pride themselves on the fact that they’ve never cancelled a show – so the fact that we’ve had to cancel so many in one year, repeatedly in certain places, it’s horrible.”
